Dowry Death: Court Sentenced Muslim Husband to Life Imprisonment & Imposed Fine

A court in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district has sentenced husband Shehzad to life imprisonment for dowry death of a married woman in a seven-year-old case and also imposed a fine of Rs 56,000 on the husband.

In default of payment of the fine, Shahzad will have to undergo additional imprisonment of two years and two months, the court said
In 2011, Shahzad Ali, a resident of Rattapur village of Ranipur police station area of ​​Bahraich, was married to Tajina, a resident of Vishunpur village of Bhinga Kotwali area of ​​Shravasti.

On 3 November 2015, Tajina’s mother Rabia was informed that her daughter had died.  Shahzad had told his mother-in-law that Tajina had died due to snake bite, but in the post-mortem report, a serious head injury was said to be the cause of death. The police arrested Shahzad after registering a case under various sections of murder, atrocities on women and dowry act. During investigation, Shahzad was found guilty of killing his wife for dowry.
