A Delhi court on Friday granted anticipatory bail to Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in a case related to the Pul Bangash killings during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
Additional Sessions Judge Vikas Dhull ordered Tytler to furnish a bail bond of ₹1 lakh and directed him not to tamper with evidence.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vidhi Gupta Anand had on July 26 summoned Tytler after taking cognizance of a chargesheet in the case. He was then ordered to appear before the court on August 5.
On May 20, CBI filed the chargesheet against Tytler.
Previously, CBI charged Tytler in the case of 3 Sikhs’ deaths, Thakur Singh, Badal Singh, and Guru Charan Singh. The case also involves a Gurudwara fire on November 1, 1984, post the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards.
CBI contends that Tytler “incited, instigated, and provoked” the mob, leading to the gurdwara’s burning and killing people.
