
In a bail petition moved by Baramulla MP Rashid Engineer, the Delhi High Court on Thursday sought the response of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The High Court bench of Justice Vikas Mahajan issued notice to NIA and slated the matter for further hearing on January 30.
Matter pertains to Rashid’s pending bail plea in a 2017 terror funding case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), wherein, he moved the HC on Wednesday.
NIA to file its response by January 30.
During the hearing of the matter, the Counsel for Rashid, Senior Advocate N Hariharan submitted that either the court should hear him or direct the concerned trail court to dispose of the petition.
Rashid pleaded for an expeditious ruling on the issue of his release on bail.
On the other hand, Special Public Prosecutor Akshai Malik for NIA submitted that in November 2024 it had requested the High Court for designation of a court which can hear the bail plea.
Rashid is currently in Tihar jail. He was arrested in 2019.
