2020 Delhi Riots Case: Karkardooma Court Convicts Nine People, Aim Was To Damage Hindu Property

Delhi’s Karkardooma Court on Tuesday convicted nine people accused of rioting, unlawful assembly, theft, mischief causing damage, and mischief with fire/explosives in the 2020 Delhi riots case.

Mohd Shahnawaz, Mohd Shoaib, Shahrukh, Rashid alias Raza, Azad, Ashraf Ali, Parvez, Md Faisal, and Rashid are the convicts.

According to the court, all of the charges levelled against the accused in the case have been proven beyond a reasonable doubt. According to the report, the convicts became part of an unruly mob whose common goal was to cause “maximum damage” to the properties of Hindus.

According to the district court, rioters continued on their rampage despite police appeals to disperse and return home. The mob looted items from the complainant’s house, vandalised other items on the property, and set fire to it, it added.

Rekha Sharma, the complainant, told police that the convicts gathered in a mob and tried to break into her house. According to Sharma, on the night of February 24, 2020, a mob broke open the back gate of her house and stole the goods from inside. They also caused damage to the house and set fire to an upper-floor room.
