Ashok Vihar Triple Murder Case: Delhi HC Grants Interim Bail To Man

The Delhi High Court recently granted interim bail of one month to Nakul Khari, a man convicted in the 2010 Ashok Vihar triple murder case.

Khari, along with two others, was convicted for the murders of two women and a man in Delhi’s Ashok Vihar. He had been in custody for over 14 years.

The division bench of Justices Prathiba M. Singh and Amit Sharma, granted Khari interim bail due to his prolonged incarceration. The trial court had convicted Khari, along with co-accused Ankit Chaudhary and Mandeep Nagar, in September 2023, and they were scheduled to be sentenced on December 19, 2023. Khari’s appeal is currently pending before the High Court.

“Considering the long period of incarceration already undergone, the appellant is directed to be released on interim bail for one month from the date of his release,” the court said in its September 27 order.

Khari’s lawyer, Advocate Amit Rana, filed the petition seeking suspension of his sentence and release on humanitarian grounds, citing that Khari had already spent about 14 years and one month in prison. Rana also mentioned that Khari’s brother-in-law passed away on February 12, and he wished to spend time with his mother and sister.

The Delhi Police verified the address of Khari’s sister before filing a status report. The case involved the murder of a married couple, Kuldeep and Monika, along with another woman, Shobha, who was killed for the sake of “honour.”
