Delhi Assembly elections
The Delhi High Court on Friday rejected a petition seeking a direction to the Delhi assembly speaker calling a special session of the Assembly to discuss the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly polls.
The High Court bench of Justice Sachin Datta rejected the plea noting inordinate delay in tabling the reports by the Delhi government.
Earlier on December 13, during the hearing of the matter, the High Court had observed that delay in tabeling the report ‘doubts on its bonafides’ and that the state government ‘dragged its feet’.
Several BJP legislators, including Mohan Singh Bisht, Om Prakash Sharma, Ajay Kumar Mahawar, Abhay Verma, Anil Kumar Bajpai, and Jitendra Mahajan had filed a plea in the Delhi HC seeking direction to speaker to convene a session to allow for the tabling of the CAG reports.
However, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led Delhi government opposed the plea, stating that there was no pressing need to address the CAG reports at this time as elections are round the corner.
