Cattle smuggling: ED tells HC, it won’t execute warrant against Anubrata Mondal till January 9

Delhi HC

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday assured the Delhi High Court that it will not execute the production warrant issued by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court against Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Anubrata Mandal
till January 9.

The Delhi high court was hearing plea by Mondal challenging a Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court’s order for producing him before it (Court).

Pursuant to this oral statement, the Delhi High court directed to list this matter on January 9, 2023 for further hearing.

The Rouse Avenue Court on Monday allowed the application of the ED seeking transit remand of Anubrata Mandal for interrogation in connection with the multi-crore cattle smuggling case in West Bengal.

The ED attached 32 properties worth Rs 1.58 crore on December 2 belonging to prime accused Anubrata Mandal’s former bodyguard Sehgal Hussain and his relative in a cattle smuggling case.

After TMC leader Anubrata Mondal was arrested by the CBI in August, the probe agency was trying to trace the money involved in the cattle smuggling case. Following the investigation, the agency claimed that huge amounts of money were being collected from cattle traders in the name of “protection money” and then given to some confidants of Mandal.
