Cattle Smuggling Case: Sukanya Mondal’s JC Extended Till July 12

The Rouse Avenue Court today extended the judicial custody of Trinamool Congress Anubrata Mondal’s daughter Sukanya Mondal till July 12 in connection with the cattle smuggling case.

Anubrata Mondal’s (chartered accountant) Manish Kothari, who was also one of the several accused in the cattle smuggling case, will also remain in custody along with Sukanya.

However, the 2 are scheduled to be produced before the Enforcement Directorate (ED)’s special court 2 months later.

Sukanya Mondal got arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the cattle smuggling case in West Bengal on April 26. Previously, she was summoned by ED to the Delhi headquarters. After a session of prolonged questioning, the central agency arrested her along with her father and some other persons who were allegedly involved in the case.

Anubrata Mondal is currently lodged at Tihar Jail in Delhi. Meanwhile, Sukanya has submitted a petition seeking immediate bail citing illness. According to the sources, the same bench of Rouse Avenue court is likely to hear this appeal on May 26.

In a supplementary charge sheet filed last week, the ED asserted that Sukanya was directly involved with many financial transactions concerning to cattle smuggling to Bangladesh.

So far she has denied the allegations, claiming she had no idea about the transactions in question.

In this case, the ED has stated that Sukanya’s income showed a mounting growth between 2019 – 2022. During the investigation, Sukanya claimed she had been working as a school teacher since 2014 and that is her only source of income.

However, she also admitted to being a shareholder in some companies, though she said she didn’t know much about it as her father was the one looking after those transactions.
