Chief Justice DY Chandrachud Pays Tributes To Gandhi, Shastri

Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary at Rajghat and the Supreme Court premises on Wednesday.

Alongside other Supreme Court judges, CJI Chandrachud also honored former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, whose birthday coincides with Gandhi’s.

The judges garlanded a statue of Gandhi at the Supreme Court and placed a wreath at a photograph of Shastri. Gandhi Jayanti, celebrated annually, marks the birth of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and is observed as a national holiday, with the nation paying homage to his contributions.

Born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat, Gandhi championed non-violent resistance and played a pivotal role in the struggle for India’s independence from British colonial rule, culminating in 1947.

Former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri is remembered for his impactful slogan, “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan.”

He was a visionary leader who resonated with the people’s needs and steered the nation toward progress, drawing inspiration from Gandhi’s teachings.
