The Rouse Avenue Court, presided over by Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, has delayed its decision on the bail request of K Kavitha, a prominent member of the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS). The court has scheduled May 6 as the day to announce its ruling on Kavitha’s bail plea regarding her alleged involvement in the Delhi liquor policy scandal. Kavitha, a leader of the BRS, was remanded to 8-day judicial custody until April 23 by the Rouse Avenue Court on April 15, in connection with the liquor scandal.
Following the conclusion of her custody period, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) requested an extension, citing Kavitha’s purported lack of cooperation with their inquiries, leading to further judicial involvement.
Advocate Nitesh Rana, representing Kavitha, opposed the CBI’s request, arguing against the extension based on Kavitha’s rights and the integrity of the investigation process, he even went onto say that this is a breach of her fundamental rights. In response to the arguments presented, the court decided to extend Kavitha’s judicial custody till the 7th of May, pending further consideration of her bail application.
