Recently, Delhi’s Saket court took cognizance on charge sheet submitted by the Delhi police, which implicated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and three others in an extortion case. The arrest of Lawrence Bishnoi took place on May 31, with the initial registration of the case at Sunlight Colony police station, later being transferred to the Delhi police crime branch.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Shivani Chauhan reviewed the material evidence and found sufficient grounds to charge the accused Lawrence Bishnoi, Sampat Nehra, Ashish, and Haren under sections 386/387 IPC R/w 120B IPC for their involvement in the offense. The court took cognizance of the matter on July 13 and listed it for further consideration on August 31.
The case revolves around incidents of firing and extortion calls targeting an advocate in South East Delhi’s Sunlight Colony area. The advocate, Ramandeep Singh, lodged a complaint on April 24, stating that he had received a call from an unknown international number on the night of March 23-24, demanding one crore rupees from him. Subsequently, he received multiple threatening calls from the same international number, which also posed threats to his family.
During the investigation, the Delhi police crime branch extensively interrogated Lawrence Bishnoi while in custody. Akshay, another accused, allegedly provided the firearms and ammunition used to threaten the victim. The police aimed to gather information regarding accused Kapil alias Nandu’s involvement and how Lawrence Bishnoi could give directions to Akshay despite being in jail.
Sampat Nehra, one of the accused, was arrested on June 2 and subsequently sent to judicial custody after nine days of police custody. The police asserted that Akshay played a role in providing the weapons and facilitating the stay of accused Haren and two Child CCLs (Children in conflict with the law) who were involved in the crime.
The investigation revealed that Lawrence Bishnoi directed Akshay to execute the plan and supply arms to the other accused individuals. Additionally, one of the accused, Kapil alias Nandu, is currently outside India and allegedly provided information to Lawrence Bishnoi to aid in the execution of the plan.
