The Delhi High Court on Friday has issued a notice regarding a plea by the Enforcement Directorate challenging the interim bail granted to Ved Pal Singh Tanwar, who was arrested in a money laundering case.

Tanwar, a Haryana mining businessman, was granted 56 days of interim bail on medical grounds on August 16 by the Saket District Court.

Justice Neena Bansal Krishna, after hearing the ED’s plea, scheduled the case for a hearing in September. Tanwar was arrested in May under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) for his alleged involvement in illegal mining activities in Haryana’s Dadam area.

Tanwar had sought interim bail for surgery related to umbilical hernia and subsequent medical care. The court, considering his medical condition and reports from jail authorities, granted him bail for eight weeks, with conditions, including treatment at a hospital within Delhi NCR. He is required to surrender after his bail period ends.

The ED opposed the bail, arguing that Tanwar’s illegal activities caused significant environmental damage and financial loss to the government. They also revealed that during a search, unaccounted cash, documents, and assets worth crores were seized, linking Tanwar to large-scale illegal mining.

The investigation suggested that Tanwar profited by ₹37 crores from these activities, which he allegedly invested in various properties, leading to his arrest in June.
