Umar Khalid

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued a notice on Umar Khalid‘s plea challenging the trial court order that dropped attempt to murder charges against two individuals accused of firing at him at Constitution Club in New Delhi in August 2018.

A single judge Justice Anoop Kumar Mendiratta issued notice to Delhi police and two men on the plea and scheduled the matter for further hearing on May 21, 2024.
Khalid has approached the High Court against a Patiala House Court’s order on December 6, 2023, dropping the attempt to murder charges against Darwesh Shahpur and Naveen Dalal.

Appearing for Khalid, Senior advocate Trideep Pias submitted that the trial court order is egregious and flawed in law.

It was also mentioned that Khalid was targeted on Facebook. This event was premeditated subsequent to acquiring the weapon. The accused individuals even recorded a video of the incident. Delhi’s Patiala House Court had acquitted the accused, observing that while Naveen Dalal pointed a gun at Umar Khalid, no shots were fired.

When two shots were fired, they were directed towards the ground, not aimed at anyone.

The case relates to an incident occurring outside the Constitution Club in New Delhi on August 13, 2018, when he attended an event ‘Khauf Se Azadi’ organized by United Against Hate (UAH). In this case, the Delhi Police arrested Darwesh Shahpur and Naveen Dalal. An FIR was filed by the Delhi Police.
