The Delhi High Court ordered a joint inspection and sought a report on the plea filed by the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD).
The Lawyers’ body stated that its office in the Sirifort Institutional area was flooded with water and garbage during the rain in June due to an uncleared drain.
A single bench of Justice Sanjeev Narula ordered the MCD and Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to carry out an inspection of the area where the BCD office is situated and file a report within a week.
The court also directed the civic bodies to take steps to prevent such incidents in the future, noting that Delhi’s claim to be a world-class city is undermined by such occurrences.
The bench ordered a joint inspection by engineers not below the rank of Superintendent Engineer. The Honorary Secretary of Bar Council of Delhi will be present during the inspection.
The BCD moved the Delhi High Court, stating that on the night of June 27 and 28, when Delhi received heavy rain, their office was flooded with water, damaging many files in the basement. Senior advocate Ramesh Gupta informed the BCD that the flooding was due to a clogged drain, and despite numerous complaints, no action had been taken to clean it.
