Delhi HC Pulls Up Delhi Govt Over Delay In Putting CAG Report In Assembly

The Delhi High Court on Monday rapped the Aam Aadmi Party led Delhi government over delay in tabeling Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports in the Delhi Legislative Assembly.

The bench led by Justice Sachin Dutta questioned the intent of the AAP government, stating that the way they had delayed the matter raised doubts about their bona fides.

The High Court observed that the reports should have been promptly forwarded to the Speaker and discussed in the Assembly.

The bench said: ‘The timeline is clear; you’ve delayed to prevent the session from happening.’

The Delhi Government argued that with elections approaching, it would be challenging to convene a special session.

The High Court emphasised the need for timely accountability.

What is the Case?

7 BJP leaders filed the petition in the Delhi High Court demanding a special Assembly session to table 14 CAG reports on the city administration.

Advocate Vijender Gupta, representing them, contended that it was their right to discuss these reports before the Assembly’s term concludes in February.

The Delhi government on the other hand labelled the petition politically motivated and expressed plans to file a counter-affidavit.
