The petitioner, a journalist, alleges a significant disparity between the drug seizure data presented in the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report and that disclosed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for the period spanning 2018 to 2020.
On September 12, 2022, the petitioner lodged a complaint with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), outlining the discrepancies between the information furnished by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and the data presented by Honorable Nityanand Rai, Minister of State for the Ministry of Home Affairs. This pertained to the seizure of heroin between 2018 and 2020.
The petitioner expressed deep concern over what they described as the “disturbing disappearance” of over 70,000 kilograms of heroin, estimated to be worth around Rs 5 lakh crore in the global market. They emphasized that this situation raises serious apprehensions regarding national security, social stability, and potential economic ramifications.
The court, in its order, mentioned that the petitioner claims a total of 70,772.48 kilograms of heroin have disappeared from seizure records between 2018 and 2020. The court has demanded that the respondent file their response within a timeframe of four weeks.
The next date of hearing for the matter is scheduled for September 9th.
