Karisma Kapoor
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday registered a petition filed by the 2 children of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, challenging the validity of a purported will attributed to their late father, Sunjay Kapur.
The court also issued a notice to their stepmother, Priya Kapur, asking her to respond to the allegations and provide details of assets.
The matter was heard by Justice Jyoti Singh, who directed Priya Kapur to file her reply within two weeks. A rejoinder from the petitioners will be allowed a week after the filing of her response. The court scheduled the next hearing for October 9.
Additionally, the judge instructed Priya Kapur to submit a comprehensive list of all movable and immovable assets in her knowledge, to be declared as of June 12. “Issue notice. Reply in two weeks, rejoinder in a week thereafter. Along with replies, Defendant 1 (Priya) will file a list of all movable and immovable assets known to Defendant 1. Assets to be declared as of June 12. Next date of hearing is October 9,” the court order reads.
The petitioners — Karisma Kapoor’s 2 children — claim that neither their father, Sunjay Kapur, nor Priya Kapur or any other family member ever mentioned the existence of the will. They allege that the sudden appearance of this document is suspicious and question its authenticity.
The plaint states that the behavior of Priya Kapur strongly suggests that the will has been fabricated. “The conduct of Priya Kapur demonstrates, without a doubt, that the alleged will has been fabricated by her,” the petition claims, raising concerns over possible manipulation of Sunjay Kapur’s estate after his passing.
Sunjay Kapur, a businessman and former spouse of Karisma Kapoor, passed away earlier this year. His estate, reportedly consisting of both movable and immovable assets, is now the subject of dispute between his children and his widow. The emergence of a will naming Priya Kapur as a beneficiary has prompted questions about its legitimacy.
This case highlights complex issues around inheritance, testamentary rights, and potential misuse of a deceased person’s estate. The court’s order to disclose assets and respond to the allegations is an important step toward ensuring transparency and protecting the interests of the rightful heirs.
The matter is now set for further hearing in October, where the court will review the claims, responses, and supporting documents.
