Delhi HC Seeks AIIMS Centre To Reply To Plea For Spot Admission Round For INI-CET

The Delhi High Court has sought a response from the Central government and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on a petition alleging that AIIMS did not conduct a spot admission round for the Institutes of National Importance Combined Entrance Test (INI-CET) 2025, despite having vacant seats in postgraduate medical courses.

Doctor AIIMS’ Decision

The petition was filed by several doctors who appeared for the INI-CET January 2025 session. They claimed that AIIMS’ failure to conduct the spot admission round denied eligible candidates a fair opportunity to secure seats in the prestigious medical institutions.

Justice Vikas Mahajan, while hearing the plea on March 28, issued notices to the Central government and AIIMS, Delhi, directing them to respond to the allegations. The court has scheduled the next hearing for April 4.

Admission Round

The spot admission round is typically conducted to fill vacant seats after regular counseling sessions. The petitioners argue that by not holding this round, AIIMS has left seats unfilled, impacting medical aspirants who qualified for admission.

Case insights

The court will review the responses from AIIMS and the Centre before making a decision. The case highlights concerns over transparency in the medical admission process and the rights of aspiring doctors to fair selection procedures.
