Security at the Delhi High Court was intensified on Thursday in response to a bomb threat email received by authorities.

According to a senior police officer, the email was received by the Delhi High Court’s registrar general on his official account on Wednesday.

The email dated February 12, sent by an individual named Balavant Desai to the Delhi High Court registrar general, warned of an explosion scheduled for Thursday, claiming it would be the largest in Delhi.

“This will be the biggest explosion in Delhi. Call the minister as well, all will be blown up,” the email stated. Taking the email seriously, security measures have been increased. Subsequent to receiving the email, high court authorities penned a letter to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora.

The letter highlighted the high court’s serious concern over the matter and urged the commissioner to enhance security arrangements in and around the high court complex immediately. Additionally, high court authorities have requested a thorough investigation into the incident and urged for a prompt report submission.

Mohit Mathur, President of the Delhi High Court Bar Association and a senior advocate, mentioned that considering a previous bomb blast incident outside the high court, authorities are unwilling to take any risks and have tightened security. He noted that court proceedings remain undisturbed, and members of the bar are cooperating. Entry into the complex is being regulated with identity card checks, and bar association staff are stationed at the gates to verify bar members.
