The Delhi High Court recently ordered a Muslim man accused of forcibly converting a woman to Islam to delete all of his social media posts regarding the woman, including photographs and comments, within 48 hours.
Justice Prathiba M Singh personally interacted with the woman, who told the court that the man had posted her videos on numerous social media platforms.
The court was hearing a petition filed by Azmat Ali Khan seeking the removal of news items and videos posted on online platforms in connection with a FIR filed against him on April 19 by a Delhi based woman alleging him of forced religious conversion.
Earlier this month, the court ordered certain news channels and social media platforms such as YouTube, Google, and Twitter to remove links of news reports accusing Khan of forcibly converting the woman to Islam.
During today’s hearing, social media platforms Google and Twitter informed the court that they had duly complied with the takedown order.
Justice Singh also asked the Khan’s attorney to advise his client to take the court’s decision seriously and to remove the social media posts.
During the hearing, Khan’s sister also stated in court that the woman and Khan had been in a relationship for a long time and that she threatened to file religious conversion charges only after he wanted to end the relationship.
Previously, Khan told the court that the charges against him are being investigated by Delhi Police, and that the circulation of the videos poses a great risk to the independent inquiry as well as his safety and security.
