DHCBA Calls On Legal Fraternity To Aid Flood-Hit Punjab & Other States

Flood-Hit Punjab & Other States

The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) on Monday expressed deep sorrow over the catastrophic floods affecting Punjab and other regions across India.

The association highlighted the extensive loss of life, destruction of property, and disruption to livelihoods caused by the disaster, urging its members and the wider legal community to contribute towards relief efforts.

Punjab Grapples With Severe Flooding

Punjab continues to reel under the impact of unprecedented flooding, with numerous villages inundated and critical infrastructure damaged. Crops have been destroyed, livestock lost, and several fatalities reported. The floods have also severed connectivity, making rescue and relief operations more difficult. Despite these challenges, authorities remain engaged in providing timely assistance to affected populations.

In its official notice, the DHCBA’s Executive Committee extended condolences to families mourning the loss of loved ones. The statement urged collective action, calling on its members to support the relief effort by providing food, shelter, and medical aid.

“The Executive Committee calls upon all its members to come forward in this moment of crisis and extend their wholehearted contributions, so that essential assistance by way of food, shelter, and medical aid may be provided to the victims of this tragedy,” said Vikram Singh Panwar, Honorary Secretary of DHCBA.

Ongoing Crises Across Multiple States

The appeal comes in the wake of other devastating natural disasters that have struck India in recent weeks. Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Bihar have also been severely affected by floods and landslides, adding to the crisis.

On August 5, 2025, a cloudburst in Dharali village, Uttarkashi district, triggered flash floods that left at least five dead and over 50 missing. The Char Dham Yatra route was also rendered inaccessible, disrupting pilgrim travel. The Indian Army has been actively involved in relief operations, providing medical aid at its Harsil facility.

DHCBA President N. Hariharan, who had previously expressed solidarity with those impacted by the Uttarkashi disaster, reiterated support for flood victims nationwide. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the people and communities affected by these calamities. Your generosity and support will go a long way in alleviating their suffering,” he said.

A Call For Collective Action

The DHCBA’s appeal is not limited to its own members. The association has encouraged the entire legal fraternity in Delhi to extend their support to relief operations. With multiple states simultaneously facing natural calamities, coordinated efforts and generous contributions are seen as essential to helping the victims rebuild their lives.
