The Delhi High Court on Friday has announced that it will hear a plea on August 5 seeking action against a contractor and officials from the Delhi Development Authority for their alleged negligence that resulted in the deaths of a woman and her 3-year-old son, who fell into a waterlogged drain.
Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela declined an urgent request for listing the petition, filed by Jhunnu Lal Srivastava for hearing today.
Furthermore, the tragic incident occurred on July 31 in East Delhi’s Ghazipur, where the woman, Tanuja, and her son, Priyansh, drowned in an under-construction drain.
Also, the plea demands compensatory measures, policy changes to prevent similar incidents, and a comprehensive safety audit of ongoing drain construction projects.
The petition named the DDA, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Delhi Police, and the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs as respondents.
