The Delhi High Court has asked the Delhi Police to respond to a plea filed by Krishan, an accused in the Kanjhawla hit-and-run case from January 2023, where he faces murder charges.

The incident involved the dragging of a girl over 13 kilometers in the Sultanpuri area on the night of December 31, 2022, and January 1, 2023.

Justice Amit Mahajan directed the Delhi Police to submit a status report and scheduled the next hearing for August 14. Krishan’s previous bail plea was rejected by the trial court on May 6, 2023. Advocate JP Singh has now filed a fresh bail plea for Krishan, who has been in custody since January 2023.

Earlier, on July 27, 2023, the Rohini District Court ordered murder and conspiracy charges to be framed against four accused, including Krishan, Amit Khanna, Manoj Mittal, and Mithun. 3 other accused face charges related to destruction of evidence and harboring offenders. The court directed specific charges under various sections of the IPC, including murder (302), destruction of evidence (201), harboring (212), and criminal conspiracy (120B).

The Delhi Police had filed an 800-page charge sheet on April 1, 2023, citing CCTV footage, witness statements, and mobile location data as evidence against the accused. The magistrate court accepted the charge sheet on April 13, 2023, initiating formal legal proceedings against the accused.

The police have implicated a total of 7 individuals in the case, with three currently out on bail. The charges include murder, destruction of evidence, conspiracy, and other offenses based on the extensive investigation and evidence gathered.
