A married woman has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking approval to terminate her 32-week pregnancy due to fetal abnormalities.
Justice Sanjeev Narula has instructed the woman, referred to as Mrs. A, to appear before the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Medical Board for examination tomorrow. The court has mandated AIIMS to submit a medical report by July 13, with the case scheduled for further consideration on July 15.
The petitioner’s counsel, Amit Mishra, informed the court that abnormalities in the fetus were detected during an ultrasound on July 4. He added that multiple lab tests confirmed the findings.
Due to the advanced stage of pregnancy, the court directed AIIMS to expedite the medical report submission.
The woman sought legal intervention after doctors advised her to obtain court permission for terminating the pregnancy.
