MCD Commissioner Tells HC: Paid Salaries, Pensions Till Dec; Jan Payment To Be Cleared Soon

Delhi High court on Thursday directed MCD commissioner to pay pensions and salaries to
retired staff members and the current employees till the December, 2022.
It further stated that the rest of the payment should be cleared in January itself.

The MCD Commissioner who then asked to appear before the Delhi High Court following a
non-payment salaries & pensions for last few months stating that they would be careful in the future. He further stated that the all employees, including Class 3rd, Class 4th and teachers had been paid till December.

The bench of Justice Subramonium Prasad & Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma noted submission
made by the MCD commissioner that recorded the matter after four weeks for further hearing.
The High Court on January 30 termed MCD employees & pensioners as “unfortunate” non-payment of salaries and that directed the commissioner of civic body & senior officer of the city government to appear before it.

It further noted that the employees of Class III and Class IV and MCD employees weren’t paid
salaries, in spite that the assurance being given to the court time to time by the authorities.

Earlier, the High Court informed advocates Utkarsh Kumar & Ashok Agarwal, representing
petitioner teachers that they weren’t paid for 2-3 months and the inactivity was in the part
of their fundamental right to livelihood’s violation.

On December 12 it has been noted in the order that the counsel for the Delhi Government
and MCD stated together that all the payments would be released soon. The court heard a
batch of petition relating to the non-payment of the salaries and pensions of the MCD employees
and retired staff, respectively.
