‘No LG Order to Halt Funding for DCPCR, HC Informed

The Delhi High Court was informed on Friday that the LG Delhi did not pass any order to halt the funding of the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR). Additionally, it was disclosed that the petitioner commission currently holds funds in excess of five crores.

After acknowledging the submissions made by the counsel for LG Delhi, Justice Subramonium Prasad was instructed to file an affidavit.

The Delhi High Court is currently hearing a petition alleging that the LG stopped the funding for DCPCR. This case was transferred to the Delhi High Court by the Supreme Court.

The counsel representing LG Delhi clarified that no order had been issued by the LG to cease the funding for the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR). Moreover, he pointed out that there is no press release from the LG, as claimed by the counsel for DCPCR. The LG’s counsel also emphasized that the petitioner commission currently holds funds exceeding Rs 5 crore.

The Court remarked, “It is something serious if it’s true because the petition gives it a political colour.” Consequently, the High Court directed the counsel to provide an affidavit stating the facts presented in court.

The matter is scheduled for further hearing on January 25. Earlier, on December 15, 2023, the petitioner commission had approached the Supreme Court, alleging that its funds were frozen by the LG. The Apex Court questioned the filing of the petition and ordered its transfer to the Delhi High Court. Subsequently, the case was listed before the high court on January 9, 2024. Senior advocate Gopal Shankar Narayanan represented DCPCR.
