A Delhi court on Thursday sent the husband of a 33-year-old pilot arrested for allegedly assaulting their minor domestic help in southwest Delhi’s Dwarka to judicial custody till August 2.
Metropolitan Magistrate Kratika Chaturvedi remanded Kaushik Bagchi (36) to jail until August 2, following his court appearance at 3 pm on Thursday.
His wife, Poornima Bagchi, a pilot for a private airline, was sent to judicial custody until the same date. Kaushik Bagchi is employed as a ground staff at another carrier.
The couple is alleged to have assaulted a 10-year-old girl, who was working as a domestic help at their residence. After the incident came to light, a mob manhandled the couple. The rescued girl from a village in Bihar had bruises, swollen eyes, lacerations, and burn injuries on her arms.
A purported video showed the couple being manhandled and beaten up by the mob. Some women were also seen slapping and pulling the hair of the accused woman while she was in her uniform.
The police stated that a case was registered against the couple under sections 323, 324, 342, 370, Child Labour Act and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
