The Delhi Saket Court On Saturday discharged activist Sharjeel Imam, a student in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in the Jamia violence case. The order is pronounced by Saket court additional sessions judge Arul Verma. A detailed matter is yet to be disclosed.
Sharjeel Imam and Asif Iqbal Tanha were granted bail earlier regarding this matter. However, Sharjeel would continue to be behind the bars under the strict Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the conspiracy case that is connected with the February 2020 northeast Delhi riots.
Police then registered an FIR under several sections of IPC, including rioting that was connected with the communal violence that flared after clashing between people protesting against the CAA and the police. According to the prosecution, Imam apparently made speeches at Aligarh Muslim University on December 16, 2019 & Jamia Milia Islamia University on December 13, 2019 where he threatened to cut off the state Assam and other states in the Northeast from the rest of the India.
