SIT Formed To Investigate Sexual Harassment Case Against WFI Chief Brij Bhushan Singh: Delhi Police To Court

The Delhi Police informed Rouse Avenue Court on Friday that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) had been formed to investigate the sexual harassment case filed against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Singh.

Public Prosecutor Atul Srivastava told Delhi Court’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjeet Singh Jaspal that a status report in the case had been filed in the matter under a sealed cover.

However, Srivastava submitted that because the case concerns sexual assaults, the status report should not be shared with anyone.

The court was also informed that one of the victims’ statements before the concerned magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC will be recorded today.

The case will now be heard next on May 27, 2023.

The court was hearing a plea moved by women wrestlers seeking a court-monitored probe in the matter. Earlier this week, the judge ordered the Delhi Police to submit a report on the action taken in the case.

Advocates Anindya Malhotra and Shaurya Lamba appeared for the wrestlers.

The Delhi Police has filed two FIRs at the Connaught Place police station against Singh. One FIR was filed under the Indian Penal Code, 1860, for different offences, while the other was filed under the POCSO Act.

An FIR under the POCSO Act has been filed on sexual harassment allegations of a minor wrestler. The second FIR is based on complaints made by other female wrestlers.

The Supreme Court recently dismissed a petition filed by three female wrestlers, noting that the Delhi Police had filed FIRs against Singh over alleged sexual harassment.
