Southeast Apartment Firing Case: Saket Court Remands Sampat Nehra To 9 Days of Police Custody

Delhi’s Saket Court has recently remanded the accused Sampat Nehra to 9 days’ custody of the Delhi Police crime branch following a firing incident at an apartment entrance in southeast Delhi’s Sidharth Nagar.

The Delhi Police sought his custody to confront him with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is already in the remand of the Crime Branch in an extortion case.

Previously, the court granted 10 days of custody of Lawrence Bishnoi to the Delhi Police crime branch in connection with extortion calls made to an advocate in the South East Delhi area.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Shivani Chauhan considered the submissions of the Investigation Officer (IO) and granted 9 days of police custody remand of Sampat Nehra to the Crime Branch.

Furthermore, Nehra was produced on Production warrants from Punjab, where he was in judicial custody under FIR No. 309/22, U/s 25 Arms Act at Police Station City Kharar.

The Investigation Officer of Delhi Police interrogated Sampat Nehra with the permission of the court for 30 minutes.

Following his arrest, the IO moved an application seeking nine days of custody, stating that Nehra needed to be confronted with co-accused Lawrence Bishnoi, identify the source of weapons used in the offense, and unearth the source of money used by the gang in various places in Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana.

Also, the purpose was to reveal the names of other gang members, their modus operandi, and for sustained interrogation.

The initial FIR was lodged at the Sunlight Colony police station based on the complaint of advocate Ramandeep Singh on April 24.

Lawrence Bishnoi was arrested on May 31 in connection with this case.

The court granted the accused’s counsel permission to have 5-10 minutes of conversation with the accused every day through audio/video call and a physical meeting for 30 minutes every alternate day during the entire period of Police Custody Remand, that subjects to the convenience of the Investigation Officer (IO) and with prior written intimation at least 24 hours in advance.

The court also directed the Chief Medical Officer of Safdarjung Hospital to provide necessary assistance for the medical examination/check-up of the accused at the office of the Crime Branch, considering the high-risk nature of the situation.

Furthermore, Complainant Ramandeep Singh alleged that he received a call from an unknown international number on the night of March 23-24, demanding Rs 1 crore. Subsequently, he received multiple threatening calls from the same international number, posing a threat to his and his family’s life.
