Triple Murder Case: Delhi HC Extends Interim Bail To Man Convicted In Ashok Vihar

The Delhi High Court on Friday has extended the interim bail for a month to Nakul Khari, a man convicted in the Ashok Vihar triple murder case.

This case involves the 2010 murders of 3 individuals a married couple, Kuldeep and Monika, and another woman, Shobha by Khari and his accomplices.

Khari has been in custody for over 14 years. A division bench comprising Justices Prathiba M. Singh and Amit Sharma granted the extension, allowing Khari to remain free on interim bail for an additional month.

Khari, along with Ankit Chaudhary and Mandeep Nagar, was convicted in September 2023. The trial court handed down the sentences on December 19, 2023, and Khari’s appeal is currently pending before the High Court.

In an order issued on September 26 the bench noted, “Considering the long period of incarceration already undergone, the appellant is directed to be released on interim bail for one month from the date of his release.”

Advocate Amit Rana, representing Khari, filed a petition seeking the bail extension on humanitarian grounds, emphasizing that Khari has already served over 14 years in prison. Rana highlighted that Khari’s brother-in-law had passed away on February 12, 2024, and expressed the appellant’s desire to spend time with his mother and sister during this difficult period.

The Delhi Police submitted a status report after verifying the address of Khari’s sister, further supporting the request for bail.

The tragic background of this case underscores the severity of the crimes committed, but the court has considered Khari’s lengthy incarceration as a significant factor in granting the interim bail extension.
