Renowned actor Neetu Chandra has filed a Public Interest Litigation in the Patna High Court, challenging the alleged vulgarity in singer Yo Yo Honey Singh’s latest track, Maniac.
The petition, expected to be heard later this month, names Singh along with his collaborators, including lyricist Leo Grewal and Bhojpuri singers Ragini Vishwakarma and Arjun Ajanabi.
Concerns Over Lyrics & Representation Of Women
In her plea, Chandra—who hails from Patna and has worked extensively in Bollywood, as well as in critically acclaimed Bhojpuri and Maithili cinema—has urged the court to direct the respondents to amend the song’s lyrics. She contends that Maniac engages in “overt sexualisation,” depicting women solely as “sex objects.”
Criticism Of Bhojpuri Language Usage
Chandra has further alleged that the song exploits the Bhojpuri language to “normalise vulgarity,” undermining cultural dignity and disregarding women’s empowerment. Her petition calls for accountability from the artists involved, arguing that such representations contribute to regressive societal narratives.
As the case awaits judicial review, the PIL has sparked discussions on artistic freedom, cultural responsibility, and gender portrayal in mainstream music.
