In response to the serious assault allegedly carried out by two lawyers against a litigant, the Allahabad High Court has taken action by prohibiting their entry into the district court premises.
Upon receiving a referral from the Prayagraj district judge, a division bench consisting of Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra and Justice Mohammad Azhar Husain Idrisi has issued notices to the lawyers in question- Ram Vijay Singh and Mohammad Asif requesting explanations as to why they should not face punishment for criminal contempt.
Following an incident on Monday where some advocates reportedly assaulted a litigant within the senior division court situated on the district court premises, the high court has also instructed the district judge to provide a report after reviewing CCTV footage. This is to determine if other counsels or individuals were involved in committing contempt.
Furthermore, the court has directed the commissioner of police, Prayagraj, to furnish a report on the current security arrangements within the district court premises. They are also tasked with ensuring that adequate police presence is maintained to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
