The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court has directed the state Chief Secretary to establish a high-powered committee tasked with formulating a plan for implementing fire safety measures throughout the state.
A bench comprising Justice AR Masoodi and Justice OP Shukla passed this order in response to a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) previously registered by the court. The court took suo motu cognizance of a fire incident that occurred last year at the Levana Suites Hotel in the state capital.
The division bench emphasized that if such a committee had been formed earlier, the court would have had insight into whether the appropriate measures were taken in response to the incident.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for the first week of November. It’s worth noting that on September 5 last year, a fire broke out at the Levana Suites Hotel in the Hazratganj area of Lucknow, resulting in the loss of four lives and injuries to several individuals.
