Allahabad HC Directs Transparency In UP-PCS-J (Mains) 2022 Exam

The Allahabad High Court has recently taken serious note of alleged irregularities in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh PCS-J (Mains) examination, directing the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) to submit the original answer sheets of petitioners in sealed covers for judicial scrutiny.

A division bench comprising Justice Saumitra Dayal Singh and Justice Donadi Ramesh instructed the UPPSC to ensure transparency by uploading the petitioners’ marks from both the written test and interviews on its official website by December 7.

The court set December 12 as the next date of hearing.

The petitioners, led by Shravan Pandey, alleged irregularities in the evaluation process, claiming arbitrary marking and tampering with scores. They argued that several candidates were unfairly given zero or significantly reduced marks despite providing correct answers.

Additionally, they accused the UPPSC of deliberately lowering scores after the initial evaluation, raising serious concerns about the integrity of the examination process.

The court identified two key issues from the petitioners’ grievances:

1. The awarding of zero or unreasonably low marks for correct answers.
2. Alleged post-evaluation tampering of marks to unfairly lower candidates’ scores.

In response, the bench directed the UPPSC to address these concerns promptly. It ordered the Commission to upload the marks obtained by the petitioners and provide the original answer books in sealed covers for inspection. “The original, disputed answer books must be presented in sealed covers for the court’s inspection,” the bench emphasized.

This development highlights the court’s commitment to ensuring transparency and fairness in the state’s competitive examinations. By scrutinizing the alleged discrepancies, the court aims to restore confidence in the evaluation process and uphold justice for affected candidates.
