The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has dismissed MLA Abbas Ansari’s bail plea concerning the alleged conspiracy to escape from Chitrakoot jail.
A single bench of Justice Jaspreet Singh passed the order.
Furthermore, the court counseled Abbas Ansari, a member of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, emphasizing the importance of upholding high standards of conduct given his position of responsibility. The court articulated that it is unacceptable for a lawmaker to be observed violating the law.
In its ruling, the court stated that the accused’s involvement in the case is prima facie established based on jail surveillance footage and witness testimonies. Considering his personal background and familial history, the court deemed the allegations not unsubstantiated.
The charges against Ansari extend beyond the conspiracy to escape from jail, including allegations of disregarding jail regulations by meeting his wife, intimidating witnesses, and engaging in extortion schemes and bribery with jail personnel.
The FIR in this matter was filed by Sub Inspector Shyam Dev Singh at Kotwali Karvi police station in Chitrakoot district on February 11, 2023. Abbas Ansari represents the Mau Assembly constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
