Allahabad HC Expresses Concern Over Delay in Construction of Rae Bareli-Prayagraj Road

NHAI

The Allahabad High Court has recently raised serious concerns regarding the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) failing to complete the construction of a four-lane road connecting Rae Bareli to Prayagraj, despite the decision being made eight years ago.

A bench of Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice O P Shukla directed the NHAI to expedite the construction work, and the next hearing is scheduled for July 12, 2023.

The court passed this order in response to a pending Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that was registered in 2013, when the High Court took suo-motu cognizance of the matter. After learning from an NHAI affidavit that the decision to build the road was made in 2015, the bench stated, “Ordinarily, the decision to construct a four-lane road taken about eight years ago ought to have been implemented by now. However, the pace of executing of the said decision appears to be slower than expected.”
