Allahabad HC Seeks Report On Healthcare Rights, Toilets For Third Gender

Allahabad HC

The Allahabad High Court issued a directive to the Uttar Pradesh government, requesting a status report on the progress made in ensuring healthcare rights and toilet facilities for the third gender.

In response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Vishal Dwivedi and others, a division bench consisting of Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Gajendra Kumar issued directions and scheduled the next hearing for July 12.

The petitioners have requested healthcare rights and dedicated toilet facilities for transgender individuals, who are officially recognized as the “third gender.”

The petitioners argued that minimal efforts have been made to address their needs, despite a Supreme Court order mandating health rights and toilet facilities for the third gender.
