The Allahabad High Court on Monday has granted anticipatory bail to Sushil Singhania, one of the accused in the Atul Subhash suicide case. Sushil Singhania is the maternal uncle of Atul Subhash’s wife.
The case also involves three other accused—Nikita Singhania, Nisha Singhania, and Anurag Singhania—who were arrested on December 15. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shiv Kumar from Karnataka’s Whitefield division confirmed that all three accused have been remanded to judicial custody.
“The accused, Nikita Singhania, was arrested near the Blossom Stayz PG in Gurugram, Haryana, while Nisha Singhania and Anurag Singhania were apprehended near Hotel Rameshwaram in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. They were transported to Bengaluru and presented before the judge, who ordered their judicial custody. Multiple teams were deployed to multiple locations,” stated DCP Kumar.
The arrests come after the death of Atul Subhash, a 34-year-old deputy general manager at a private firm, who died by suicide in his Bengaluru apartment last week. In a 24-page suicide note, Subhash alleged harassment by his wife and her family members. He also claimed that a judge had demanded Rs 5 lakh to “settle” the case.
In the aftermath of the incident, Subhash’s family raised concerns over the custody of his young son. On Sunday, his father, Pawan Kumar Modi, made a heartfelt appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and other authorities to intervene and secure custody of his grandson.
Bikas Kumar Modi, the deceased’s brother, echoed similar concerns about the child’s whereabouts and safety. He further noted that two individuals implicated in the case remain at large, stressing the family’s continued demand for justice.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities examining the claims made in the suicide note and thoroughly probing the role of the accused. The police have reassured the public that they are committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice is delivered to the victim’s family.
This case has attracted widespread attention, not only for its tragic nature but also for the pressing issues it raises about familial harassment and legal accountability. With growing public scrutiny, the authorities face mounting pressure to conduct a transparent and impartial investigation while addressing the concerns of the bereaved family.
