BJP Leader Paresh Rawal: Veteran Actor Moves To Calcutta HC In Response To FIR Against Him

Bollywood actor and BJP leader Paresh Rawal, has moved to Calcutta High Court in response of an FIR lodged against him for allegedly making “Anti-Bengali” remarks.

The case will be heard by Justice Raj Sekhar Mantha on 2 February, 2023. The Kolkata Police also summoned Rawal, who then requested more time to appear.

Rawal stated last year, ahead of the Gujarat Assembly elections, “Gas cylinders are expensive, but prices will fall. People will get employment too. But what if Rohingya migrants and Bangladeshis start living around you, like in Delhi? What are you going to do with gas cylinders? Cook fish for the Bengalis?”

A case has been filed against Rawal under IPC sections 153 (provocation with intent to cause riot), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), 153B (promotes denial of rights to linguistic or racial groups), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 505 (statements intending public mischief).

However, the veteran actor afterwards issued an apology on Twitter for his take on the subject and clarified that he was referring to illegal “Bangladeshis and Rohingyas.”
