BMW Hit & Run Case: Mumbai Court Sends Accused Driver To Jail For 14 days

A Mumbai court on Thursday sent Rajesh Shah’s family driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, to 14-day judicial custody in connection with the fatal BMW hit-and-run case.

Bidawat was in the car with Rajesh Shah’s son, Mihir Shah, the primary accused, during the crash on Sunday.

Mihir Shah, 24, was allegedly driving the BMW when it struck a scooter in Mumbai’s Worli area, killing Kaveri Nakhwa, who was riding pillion, and injuring her husband. According to police, after the crash, Bidawat swapped seats with Mihir Shah, allegedly on Rajesh Shah’s instructions.

Bidawat was presented before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (Sewree court) S.P. Bhosale at the end of his police remand on Thursday. Although the police requested an extension of his custody for further investigation, the court placed Bidawat under judicial custody for 14 days.

The incident occurred around 5:30 am on the arterial Annie Besant Road in Worli when the BMW lost control and collided with the couple’s two-wheeler. The accused have been charged under various sections, including Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Mihir Shah, arrested on Tuesday after evading authorities for over two days, remains in police custody until July 16. His father, Rajesh Shah, also implicated in the case, is currently out on bail.
