Bombing Case: Calcutta HC Grants Temporary Protection To BJP Leader Arjun Singh

The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday verbally directed the police not to take any coercive action against BJP leader and former MP Arjun Singh until the next hearing scheduled for Thursday.

Singh had moved the court seeking the quashing of an FIR registered against him in connection with a recent bombing incident.

Court Grants Temporary Relief

Singh’s lawyer approached the High Court, requesting protection from arrest and the dismissal of the FIR lodged against him. After hearing the plea, the court granted verbal assurance that Singh would not face immediate police action. However, a final decision will be taken during the next hearing.

Case Background

The FIR against Arjun Singh is related to an incident in which bombs were allegedly hurled near his residence in Bhatpara, located in the North 24 Parganas district, last week. Following the incident, the Barrackpore Court on Tuesday issued an arrest warrant against him.

Singh, a prominent political figure in West Bengal, has denied any involvement in the case and claims the FIR is politically motivated. His legal team is now seeking the complete dismissal of charges.

More Into The Case

The case will be heard again on Thursday, where the High Court will decide whether to extend Singh’s protection or allow the police to proceed with action against him. Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies continue their investigation into the bombing incident.

The legal proceedings are being closely watched, given Singh’s political stature and the ongoing political tensions in West Bengal.
