Calcutta HC Grants Permission for BJP Leader Suvendu Adhikari’s Nazat Rally

The Calcutta High Court on Friday granted permission to Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari to conduct a public meeting on March 10 at Akratala area under Nazat police station in North 24 Parganas district.

The court emphasized that nothing should be articulated at the rally that might exacerbate the law and order situation in the vicinity, which is situated near Sandeshkhali.

The residence of suspended Trinamool Congress leader Shajahan Sheikh, presently in CBI custody due to his involvement in an attack on ED officials and facing allegations in numerous cases related to offenses against women and land encroachment in Sandeshkhali, is situated in a village within the Nazat police station area.

In response to Adhikari’s plea, Justice Jay Sengupta granted permission for the public meeting to take place between 10 am and 5 pm on March 10.

Initially, Adhikari’s counsels sought permission to hold the meeting at Sundarikhali village under the Nazat police station area, but the court instructed them to propose an alternative location following the state’s objection to the rally being held there.

Consequently, the court allowed Adhikari to hold the meeting at Akratala, upon the suggestion of his lawyers, as a village under the Nazat police station jurisdiction. Meanwhile, the ruling TMC is also set to organize a large rally at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata.
