Calcutta HC Sets Up Vulnerable Witness Deposition Centre in Andaman & Nicobar Islands

The Calcutta High Court has established a Vulnerable Witness Deposition Centre (VWDC) at the district court in Mayabunder, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The aim of setting up the VWDC is to protect vulnerable witnesses.

The VWDC in Mayabunder, located about 250 km from Port Blair, was established following a directive from the Supreme Court.

The centre, which cost approximately Rs 29 lakh to set up, includes all essential features, according to Calcutta High Court Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, who inaugurated the centre on 11th July, 2024.

“I am confident that the district judiciary at Mayabunder will utilize the centre effectively to achieve its intended purpose,” he stated.
