Arrested Tamil Nadu minister V. Senthil Balaji on Tuesday has approached the Madras High Court seeking bail in a money laundering case.
Balaji was represented by senior counsel N R Elango before Justice G Jayachandran, who was requested to expedite the proceedings. The judge has scheduled the bail application for a hearing on October 11.
Senthil Balaji was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on June 14 in connection with alleged irregularities in the selection of bus conductors, drivers, and junior engineers within the Tamil Nadu Transport Department. These appointments took place during Balaji’s tenure as the Transport Minister in the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) government between 2011 and 2015. Balaji later aligned with the DMK in 2018.
It is worth noting that his bail petitions had been rejected twice previously by a local court. Balaji, who is currently incarcerated at Puzhal Prison, underwent a health check-up at a government hospital on Monday.
