The Central government on Tuesday notified the appointment of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singhas Chief Justice of Tripura High Court.
Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju announced the appointment today via his official Twitter account.
“As per the relevant provisions under the Constitution of India, President of India has appointed Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, Judge of Jharkhand High Court as the Chief Justice of Tripura High Court,” the tweet stated.
Following the retirement of Justice Jaswant Singh, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended on February 7 that Justice Singh be appointed as Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court.
Given that Justice Singh was set to retire on February 22, the Collegium chose to recommend Justice Kumar’s appointment.
Who is Justice Singh?
Justice Singh was born on July 7, 1965. He graduated with honors from the University of Delhi with a B.A. and an L.L.B. He became an advocate in 1990 and practiced at Patna High Court from 1990 to 2000, and in the High Court of Jharkhand from 2001 until his elevation as Judge of the High Court of Jharkhand.
On January 24, 2012, he was appointed as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Jharkhand, and on January 16, 2014, he was confirmed as a permanent Judge. He also served as Acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court from December 20, 2022 to February 19, 2023.
