Centre Notifies Appointment of Justice Dhiraj S Thakur as Andhra Pradesh HC Chief Justice

The Central government has recently notified the appointment of Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur as Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

The Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal made the announcement through a tweet.

The Supreme Court Collegium recommended Justice Thakur’s appointment as the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on July 5, 2023.

Born on April 25, 1964, Thakur got enrolled as an advocate in 1989 with the Bar Council of Delhi and later with the Bar Council of Jammu & Kashmir. He earned the designation of Senior Advocate in 2011 and became a permanent judge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir on March 8, 2013. Subsequently, on June 10, 2022, Thakur was transferred to the Bombay High Court.

As of now, Justice Akula Venkata Sesha Sai is serving as the acting Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The High Court, with a sanctioned strength of 37 judges, currently has 30 judges, resulting in a vacancy of 7 positions.
