A former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital approached the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday, requesting an Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation into former principal Sandip Ghosh.
The petitioner, Akhtar Ali, has alleged financial irregularities during Ghosh’s tenure at the state-run facility.
Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj granted Ali permission to file the petition, seeking an order for the ED to investigate the allegations against Ghosh. Ali had previously reported these concerns to West Bengal government authorities in 2023.
The state government established a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This development follows national attention garnered by the discovery of a female doctor’s body in a seminar hall on August 9. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is looking into the alleged rape and murder of the postgraduate trainee, as directed by the high court.
