Pamela Goswami, the youth wing leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was released by the Calcutta High Court in a narcotics case in which she had been involved since 2021.
On February 29, 2021, she was detained for accused possession of an illicit narcotic substance, cocaine.
Pamela Goswami remarked after being released from the NDPS case, “I was always telling the truth, and I was able to establish that I was framed. That took two years of my life, and my family’s reputation was at stake. Yet, after a lengthy legal battle, I am finally clear of any claims leveled against me; truth always triumphs “.
In the same case, the state’s detective department detained another BJP leader, Rakesh Singh, and his associates.
According to Kolkata Police, no proof was found against Pamela Goswami throughout the inquiry, and an investigation revealed that Rakesh Singh planted the cocaine out of personal hatred.
The police sought that she be released from the case before the trial court.
In February, 2021, New Alipore police station conducted an operation and arrested Pamela Goswami and two other persons following the recovery of cocaine weighing 76 grams from her car. Cocaine was seized from the rear zip cover of the front seat and under the driver’s seat.
An NDPS complaint was filed against the BJP youth leader under Section 21(B)/29. The matter was afterwards taken up by the Kolkata Police detective department.
Goswami approached the high court after a special court denied Kolkata Police’s request to release her from the case and ordered on June 3 that the trial should continue.
Appearing for Goswami, Advocate Avik Ghatak stated, “We appealed to the Calcutta High Court challenging the order of the lower court. After hearing our arguments, the court finally accepted the prayer of the investigating agency, set aside the previous order of the Alipore court and discharged my client Pamela Goswami.”
