Ex- CM KCR Moves Telangana HC Seeking to Stay Narasimha Reddy Commission Proceedings

Former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has moved the High Court seeking a direction to stay all further proceedings of the commission of inquiry, which was established by the Congress government to look into decisions made in the power sector during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) regime.

Rao, in a writ petition before the High Court, has also challenged the Government Order forming the commission chaired by retired Justice L. Narasimha Reddy. This commission is tasked with conducting a judicial inquiry into the decisions made by the previous BRS government concerning power procurement from Chhattisgarh by TS DISCOMS, and the construction of Bhadradri Thermal Power Plant and Yadadri Thermal Power Plant by TS GENCO.

The BRS President, argued that the commission’s formation was illegal, lacked jurisdiction, exceeded the provisions of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952, and contravened the Electricity Act, 2003.

Recently, the former chief minister had criticized the chairman’s conduct, alleging unfairness. In a letter to retired Justice L. Narasimha Reddy, Rao requested him to withdraw from the inquiry.

The petition additionally seeks to annul a letter dated June 19 issued by the commission, which directed Rao to appear before it and provide evidence against witnesses, citing it as arbitrary and unlawful.

The petition is expected to be heard by the court in a few days.

The commission, investigating alleged irregularities in the power sector during the previous BRS government’s tenure, had previously sent letters to Rao and several others, seeking their responses as part of its ongoing investigation.
